CD is an abbreviation of compact disks. CD helps store substantial amount of data and that can be transferred to the CPU. CDs are basically thin small, portable, round-shaped optical disks that have an average diameter of 120 millimeters that is 4.7 inch. Since CD was manufactured in order to fulfill a particular purpose that is storing of audio sound recordings, it was designed to store 80 mins of audio recording approximately and had a storage memory of around 700 MB of data. CD was introduced in the digital market in the year 1982 in the month of October. As time passed and technology advanced, CD was expanded and its memory was improved and revised. Later, CD-R also known as CD writer was available which can help save writings and audio recordings. Then Cd-Rw came in market which can re write the data again. Basically, its advantage was that the data written before can be erased and the disk can be used again. VCDs were then launched which had a memory capacity of holding around 3 movies at the same time and can be played in a VCD player. It was further advanced in to SVCD also known as Super Video Compact Disks which were considered even more powerful and spacious than the previous and then as time passed, PhotoCD, and Picture CD, CD-I, enhanced CDS were available and the technology even today, continues to advance with time.
A compact disk can serve many purposes; it has become an essential part of every individual’s life for example students, business man, doctors, managers, teachers, households and other organization who rely on CDs to store their records and heavy data. Compact disks also prove to be a back up for any data and can be copied easily to any computer, anywhere! CDs are not just used for storing but data and audio visual recordings can be stored and recorded in them. Some of the uses of CD are storing of audio and visual data hat includes songs, recordings, movies, plays etc. Many of the kids and teenagers these days are addicted of playing video games and computer games and CDs are available in market that has games stored in them. There are CD Roms available too which can help in the built in data of the computer.
When CDs are scratched and old and of no use, they can still be used for various purposes like playing Frisbees, in Christmas tree decoration and for other creative purposes!
